Frequently Asked Questions

When does registration open?

Registration opens on this website on April 1st at 9am! We know...it's the same day as Burlington. Hopefully, you'll be able to get a spot between both options. Always join the waiting list if an activity is full! We are very often able to add campers in!

How many weeks do you have camp?
We have 6 weeks of Summer Camp beginning the last week in June!

Where do you have camp?
Camp is held at the Town Hall Sports Complex. Our backup site is Harwinton Consolidated School.

Do you have an indoor location?
The majority of camp takes place outside. We do have the pavilion for shade. In cases of extreme heat we do take turns going into Town Hall.

Do you take off-site trips?
No. We bring in different entertainment and plan special activities for the kids each week.

What types of things do you do at camp?
We plan different activities each day but some common activities are; kickball, soccer, variations of tag, duck duck splash, board games, coloring/crafts, running through sprinklers (a camp favorite), and free play on the playground. If your child does not enjoy active games and sports this camp may not be the best fit for them.

Can I sign up for partial weeks?
No. We are not allowing partial weeks and we will not pro-rate you. If you are signing up for a week of camp you are committing to the pricing and all the days listed at registration. Please see our reimbursement policy below.

Campers love our sprinklers on hot days!

 - Water!

- Sunscreen

Please apply sunscreen once before leaving your home. You should also pack some in their backpack so they can reapply after lunch.

Each week we will send out an email the Sunday before camp with our themed days. If your camper should bring a towel in the event we are playing water games we will let you know via email/text blast.

Email/Text Blasts
We use our MyRec site to send e-blasts and text blasts to parents. We will send an email noon Sunday before camp begins with information for the upcoming week. If you do not receive an email please check your spam folder! The only way you will not receive an email is if you "unchecked" a box when you created your account. If you have questions about this please call or email the recreation office.
We will email/text you about changes in camp dismissal time or location changes the night before camp.

Registration
All participants must be registered on MyRec by the Thursday before the start of each week.
If you do not register by this time you will be sent to the wait list and your child will not be guaranteed a spot on Monday. We need to ensure that we have all camp rosters and information ahead of time. If you are moved from the wait list you will receive a phone call from
the Recreation Director or a Camp Supervisor by Monday at 8:00a.m. It is not common for us to have a full camp, so more than likely we will be able to move several people from the waiting list. You will not receive a late fee if we have moved you from the waiting list. Please do not show up to camp without getting a phone call.

Payment can be made using credit card or a check. We will not accept cash. All checks or money orders should be made out to the Town of Harwinton.   It can be mailed or dropped in the drop box at Town Hall. You will need to call or email the Park and Rec. office in order to finalize your registration if you plan to pay with a check. Please do not give checks to the Supervisors at drop off.  You can begin payment before camp starts. You should be able to pay your balance in increments online. The balance owed for each week will need to be paid the Friday before or you will be charged a late fee. For example, Week 1 starts June 26th, so the balance needs to be paid before June 23rd in order to avoid fees.

There is a discount for families with multiple children attending camp. For a half day, it is $5 per extra child. For the full day, it's $10 per extra child. This will not be reflected until you get to the end of the registration process where you need to enter payment information.

Reimbursement
Families will be reimbursed fully if you cancel by the Thursday before the week your child is withdrawing from is set to begin.  If cancellations happens after Thursday but before Monday you will be charged $30 upon reimbursement. If your child is no longer able to participate in camp due to illness/injury after already starting camp you will be pro-rated for the refund.

Inclement Weather
At our sports complex, we have limited shelter from the sun/rain. This year we will be utilizing Harwinton Consolidated School (HCS) in the event of inclement weather.

We may start or end the day at HCS if we are expecting limited periods of rain. Students will be escorted by Camp Staff and the Recreation Director through the short trail system if we are going to change locations. Campers will be supervised at all times.

We may still decide to cancel or dismiss camp early in the event of extreme heat or inclement weather. This is never a decision we make lightly. Depending on the conditions inside HCS and the amount of campers we have, sometimes being inside is not the best option. We will always make these decisions the night before.

Contact the Recreation Director with any questions or concerns. More information will be sent out the Sunday before each week of camp begins.
